Responsibilities:
- The In-house General Counsel must negotiate and draft various contracts and legal agreements, including those related to customers, vendors, employment, and licensing.
- Provide legal counsel and support on diverse legal and regulatory matters, including contract negotiation and compliance with applicable laws.
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures, and train company employees on legal and regulatory issues.
- The In-house General Counsel will oversee the company’s legal affairs, focusing on risk management and dispute resolution.
- Manage and advance ongoing litigation cases.
- Supervise and advise on collections, escalating issues as necessary.
- Stay informed about changes in laws and legislation (e.g., Department of Agriculture regulations by state) and advise on compliance.
Qualifications:
- The In-house General Counsel must have an active and in good standing with the California State Bar.
- Must hold a J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
- Must have 5+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- In-house General Counsel must have 5+ years of experience in the food and trading industries.
- Strong understanding of creditor's rights.
- Expertise in commercial contract negotiation; experience in the food industry or commodity trading is a plus.
- Experience in real estate law is a bonus.
- In-house General Counsel must have exceptional negotiation, drafting, and oral/written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and capacity to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
