Responsibilities
- Process and document samples.
- Analysis of bulk and air for asbestos mineral fibers using TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy).
- Quantify asbestos content and identify other sample components.
- Document findings in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Implement quality control procedures.
- Adhere to lab safety protocols.
- Follow EPA, NVLAP, ELAP, OSHA, and NIOSH standards for asbestos identification.
- Prepare PCM slides, perform quality control checks, and conduct fiber counting according to NIOSH 7400 Method.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, related science, or PLM(Polarized Light Microscopy) Asbestos training course
- Physics and/or Mineralogy background is advantageous.
- 2 years of TEM or PCM experience in asbestos testing.
- Familiarity with regulations such as NYELAP, Canadian standards, NVLAP, ASTM D 6480 and 5575, CARB 435, Cincinnati methods, EPA 600 interim and R-93/116, NIOSH 7400/7402/9002, and AHERA.
- PCM analysts must hold a NIOSH 582 certificate.
- Adhere to lab safety protocols, including proper use of fume hoods, personal protective equipment (PPE), and sample containment.
