RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Safely and efficiently set up and operate a variety of manual machines, including lathes, mills, gear shapers, grinders, drill presses, saws, and welding equipment.
  • Set up, prove-out, program, and operate CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders, and gear shapers with proficiency.
  • Verify the accuracy, revision level, and validity of paperwork, documentation, and inspection tools before beginning any job.
  • Conduct necessary part inspections to ensure quality and continuously monitor parts production to adhere to blueprint tolerances using appropriate inspection tools and methods.
  • Occasionally assist with fabricating tools and fixtures as needed.
  • Deburr all parts post-machining to meet required specifications.
  • Accurately record labor time and make precise entries on relevant manufacturing documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex machining issues, recommending process and tooling improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and perform basic preventive maintenance tasks as required.
  • Perform other general shop duties or assist other departments as business needs dictate.
  • Operate multiple machines simultaneously when cycle time permits.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to shop personnel in the proper setup and operation of CNC equipment.
  • Meet all quality and productivity standards.

  • Ensure a safe work environment by consistently adhering to company safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7–10 years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in setting up and operating manual machines, including engine lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, gear shapers, honing machines, drill presses, ID grinders, surface grinders, tool grinders, band saws, and welding equipment.
  • 7–10 years of experience in setting up, proving out, and operating CNC turning, milling, grinding, and gear shaping equipment, including program edits and tool offsets.
  • Ability to work independently from blueprints, sketches, or verbal/written instructions without supervision or technical guidance.
  • Skilled in mentoring shop personnel as needed.
  • Proficient with typical shop inspection equipment such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, CMMs, and various inspection methodologies.
  • Advanced understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), metal cutting principles, tooling, and thread nomenclature.
  • Proficient in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry; mechanical drafting and CAD/ SolidWorks experience are a plus.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional traits include initiative, integrity, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and the ability to apply them to drive continuous production improvements.
  • Must be able to speak, write, and read English, with the ability to interpret safety guidelines, method sheets, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Availability for overtime when required by business demands.  Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Standards Professional (CSP) preferred or attainable.
  • Experience with international, federal, state, and local authorities to secure and maintain approvals, licenses, permits, and certifications.
  • Experience in collaborative equipment design and integrating EH&S programs into PQDC (People, Quality, Delivery, Cost) visual management environments.
  • Ability to publish in trade journals and present at industry and government conferences.
