Responsibilities
  • Methodology and Documentation:
  • Write, review, and approve analytical methods, protocols, procedures, reports, and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
  • Conduct validation of analytical methods.
  • Quality Assurance and Instrumentation:
  • Monitor QA/QC acceptance criteria for sample results and instrument calibrations (GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS).
  • Maintain calibrated instrumentation for accurate results.
  • Operational Leadership:
  • Lead responses to proficiency tests, audits, and certifications.
  • Assist in day-to-day lab operations, ensuring quality work and a positive work environment.
  • Make personnel decisions (hiring, evaluations, promotions, scheduling).
  • SOP Compliance and Training:
  • Ensure staff follow written policies, customer requirements, and EPA methods.
  • Revise SOPs and update analyses and methodologies.
  • Authorize Corrective Action Reports and Nonconformance Reports.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Analyze results, authorize completed jobs, and sign as an analyst.
  • Review customer surveys and internal audits.
  • Develop, modify, verify, and validate methods.

Education and Experience:
  • Master’s Degree: Must hold a Master’s level degree in chemical or biological sciences.
  • Post-Degree Laboratory Experience: Either a minimum of 2 years of post-degree laboratory experience or:
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a chemical/biological science.
  • 4 Years of Analytical Lab Experience: Documented experience in an analytical laboratory using and maintaining instruments such as HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, and ICP-MS.
  • Chemistry Background: A background in Chemistry is preferred.
Industry-Specific Knowledge:
  • Medical Cannabis Experience: Industry-related experience in medical cannabis.
  • Accreditation Familiarity: Familiarity with AIHA LAP (American Industrial Hygiene Association Laboratory Accreditation Programs) and mandatory compliance with ISO 17025:2017 standards.
PFAS Laboratory Expertise:
  • 2 Years in Accredited PFAS Lab: Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an accredited PFAS laboratory.
  • EPA Knowledge: Proficiency in EPA requirements and regulations related to PFAS testing.
Instrument Proficiency:
  • ICP-MS Experience: At least one year of experience with ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) for metals analysis in a commercial or government laboratory setting.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
  • Cannabis Analysis: Knowledge of AIHA LAP, LLC, DEA, Virginia Cannabis Control Authority, and EPA requirements related to pesticides and residual solvents testing.
  • Metals Analysis Bonus: Experience performing metals analysis in food, soil, or water.

Salary: $70K-$85K (DOE)
