RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation of the operating room, ensuring that it is properly set up for the procedure, with all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assess patients prior to surgery, obtaining a health history and evaluating their condition to ensure surgical readiness.
- Administer pre-operative medications and assist in positioning the patient on the operating table.
- Serve as a scrub nurse, assisting the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies, or as a circulating nurse, managing the overall nursing care in the OR.
- Monitor the patient's condition throughout the surgery, acting swiftly in emergency situations.
- Ensure the sterile field is maintained, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to provide post-operative care and instructions to patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current RN license in New York or eligibility for licensure.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, with a strong preference for experience in an operating room or surgical setting.
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
- CNOR certification is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.
