RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify the needs of oncology patients and their families.
  • Develop and implement care plans that address identified needs, coordinating with the oncology team to ensure holistic care.
  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling to help patients and families cope with cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
  • Facilitate support groups for patients, survivors, and family members.
  • Assist patients and families in navigating healthcare systems, accessing community resources, and understanding their rights and entitlements.
  • Advocate on behalf of patients with external agencies, healthcare providers, and other entities to secure necessary services.
  • Educate patients, families, and healthcare professionals on the psychosocial aspects of cancer care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to treatment planning and care coordination.
  • Maintain detailed records of assessments, interventions, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and professional ethical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical social work experience, with a preference for experience in oncology, palliative care, or hospice settings.
  • Knowledge of the psychosocial aspects of cancer, treatment modalities, and the impact of illness on patients and families.
  • Strong counseling and crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for patient needs and navigate complex healthcare systems.
