RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design and engineering phases of precast concrete projects, translating architectural and structural plans into detailed production and erection drawings.
- Interface across departments, including Sales, Estimating, Project Management, Operations, and external parties (GCs, architects, engineers) to coordinate project deliverables and resolve technical challenges.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing design responsibilities with oversight of drafting and engineering staff (2-4 designers, 1-2 junior engineers).
- Direct the engineering package development, including submittal, revision, approval, and final release to both the fabrication plant and field erection teams.
- Supervise and mentor less-experienced engineers and designers, checking work for accuracy and providing ongoing technical training.
- Lead or participate in field inspections to ensure construction quality, writing observation reports and overseeing field repair recommendations and follow-ups.
- Engage in conceptual design efforts when projects lack complete construction documentation.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Supervisor to provide technical sales support as required.
- Utilize internal or external design resources effectively, self-performing complex tasks when necessary and delegating appropriately.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Master’s degree in engineering (preferred and may substitute for one year of experience).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 6 years of overall engineering experience.
- At least 2 years within the precast or related construction industry is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in an engineering/design leadership role preferred.
